The year started with good news for Game of Thrones fans. The writer George RR Martin, creator of the GOT universe, used the transition from 2023 to 2024 to update the situation of the projects derived from the saga.
According to him, there are currently 3 animations in development with HBO. The announcement was made on the author’s official website. The manufacturer, however, does not confirm. Martin himself, in fact, clarifies this in the text.
“Nothing is certain in Hollywood. But if it happens, with one, two or three series, I hope to be able to make them as good, beautiful and captivating as ‘Blue-Eyed Samurai’.”
Martin’s blog post praises this Netflix animated series (Blue-eyed samurai), which debuted on November 3 and was a huge success, including the possibility of a second season.
But let’s get back to GOT. According to the author, the initial idea was to produce four animations. Two of them, however, have been archived. And a series that would have been in live-action format has now become animation.
“Work on the other two animated projects continued, and in the meantime, we moved Nine Voyages, our series about the legendary voyages of the Sea Serpent, from live-action to animation. A change I fully support. Budget constraints would likely have made a live-action film quite expensive, given that half the series took place at sea. We have a much better chance of showing that in animation.”He explained.
Martin did not provide details on what the other two animations would be.
What we only know is that HBO has so far only approved the project based on the book “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” which tells the story of Sir Duncan the Tall, who served as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard during the reign of King Aegon V. Targaryen. And it will be in live-action.

The second season will be released this year!
There’s no firm premiere date yet, but the expectation is that new episodes will be released on Max (which will replace HBO Max) in the summer in the Northern Hemisphere, which is our winter here (between June and September).
With the electrifying finale of season one, what awaits us for season two is war! And with dragons on both sides.
HBO released a teaser in early December, and it’s worth a rewatch:
And I also thought about writing a little about the expectations around the sixth book of A Song of Ice and Fire, but I’ve already given up on Martin…
Joke! But consider that I’ve been waiting since 2011, when I finished the 824 pages of “A Dance with Dragons” in about 5 days.
