Without this iconic comedy of the 80s, Marvel would never exist

A day off that turns into a fun and wacky adventure celebrates youth and the unknown: with its carefree character, Ferris Bueller’s comedy Day Off became a cult hit… and a Marvel model!

While this may annoy theater staff who want to clear the room quickly, Marvel has made it a habit to polish its end credits… because there’s usually a bonus scene (or two) hiding in there! However, without this, this tradition would not exist Ferris Bueller’s Crazy Day (1986).

To remind you, the John Hughes classic tells the story of a very popular dunce, Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick), who often skips school. This time he convinces his girlfriend (Mia Sara) and his hypochondriac best friend (Alan Ruck) to skip school and spend the day in Chicago. Meanwhile, the high school principal (Jeffrey Jones) and Ferris’ sister (Jennifer Gray) each try to prove to their parents that their son is lazy and that he’s not doing well.

The five million dollar teen comedy carpe diem was a huge hit, grossing 14 times its budget at the box office, and has been revered ever since. It was adapted into a TV series with Jennifer Aniston (then canceled within weeks!). Among the film’s fans is Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige. She told Entertainment Weekly that she had a huge crush on him as a teenager Ferris Bueller’s Crazy Day refused to end with credits.

It was the best thing in the world. I thought it was funny. It was a small reward for me after watching the entire credits.

Although the feature film was not the first to feature bonus featurettes at the end of the credits, this scene is perhaps the most influential due to its impact. Kevin Feige who therefore decided to do the same. And he’s very proud of how the large amount of bonus scenes in the MCU has changed the way movie audiences behave, he told Entertainment Weekly.

Sometimes three people would stay in a room for an extra charge, and now it changes, but there might be three-quarters of the room left, or when people start to leave, they say, “Where are you going?” Which I find very amusing.

The iconic film of the 80s generation, often copied but never equaled, is therefore the origin of the post-credits scenes that are now part of our Marvel culture… but not only that!

Ferris Bueller’s Crazy Day can be rediscovered streaming on Filmo and Paramount+.
