Moya is confident that Nadal will return to his best level

The Spaniard bets on his student’s best tennis between March and April

After his first victory on his return at the ATP 250 in Brisbane, Australia, Carlos Moya commented in an interview with the newspaper L’Equipe his confidence in Rafael Nadal’s return to his best level.

Rafa beat Dominic Thiem 7/5 6/1 on Tuesday and secured the round of 16: “I’m very happy with his performance, especially considering the circumstances. I couldn’t ask for more, it happened against Dominic Thiem. There are always little things to improve, but little by little everything is falling into place. The level was very good, probably better than we expected. Now we have to continue to evolve and progress match after match”, explains Carlos about Nadal’s ATP debut from Brisbane.

Not all of it has been good news in these almost twelve months out of competition. There were attempts to bring Rafa back earlier, but luck was not on his side. That press conference in Mallorca in which he announced a break was one of the key moments in this process. The doubts have been present from the beginning until today: “There was the risk that he would never play again”, says the Balearic coach.

For Moya, the student’s best level will be a few months before: “I think we will see his best version in the spring, around March or April. He will need about ten games to gain confidence, to find his rhythm again. I know that “He will return at its best level. With Rafa you can expect anything, I mean, it’s Rafa. The idea is to be 100% for Roland Garros. Maybe it will be sooner, maybe this week (laughs). With Rafa you never know. “He takes his magic from who knows where, that’s why he is Rafa.”
