Samsung Galaxy S24 will have “navigation assistance” and AI zoom

New teasers and leaks show the AI features that will be present in the Galaxy S24, including improved zoom and “navigation assistance”

With confirmation of the date of the next Galaxy UnpackedTHE SAMSUNG has started releasing new teasers highlighting some of the features that will be integrated into the Galaxy S24 in the “Galaxy AI” suite. The most recent of these is “Zoom with Galaxy AI”, already highlighted by leaks in the past, which appears to extend the improved magnification capabilities seen in previous generations. The official information is also accompanied by new rumors that mention other points where the giant should apply its Artificial Intelligence solution.

Content creators promoting pre-sales of the line Galaxy S24 took the opportunity to share teasers of some of the AI-based features that will be present on the devices. The first to highlight is “Zoom with Galaxy AI”, which is not entirely new: Samsung has already applied artificial intelligence algorithms in specific scenarios, such as when using the 100x magnification of the Galaxy S23 Ultra to photograph the moon, for example.

With this in mind, the new generation of smartphones seems to extend this functionality to any type of photo, which coincides with some recent rumors. The leaked information suggested that we would have better image quality and, more interestingly, the application of the video zoom algorithm. The novelty could also be one of the justifications used by the brand if the periscope telephoto lens of the Galaxy S24 Ultra suffer the hypothesized downgrade of the optical zoom from 10x to 5x.

Another curious aspect is that, according to the same leak, the standard Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24 Plus can have access to similar features, which are a good upgrade over previous years’ models, which were supported by the camera specs. The new feature probably wouldn’t guarantee the level of quality of the Ultra variant, but at least it could offer greater versatility to owners of simpler devices.

Based on official announcements, the whistleblower Ahmed Qwaider has shared two other features that should be part of the Galaxy AI suite and which could expand the possibilities of use of the new mobile phones. Called “Browsing Assist” (or Navigation Assistance, in the free translation), the first would act similarly to Android’s current context menu, but with three extra options when the user selects text items.

In addition to highlighting the selected song, it would be possible to translate it or even request a complete summary, along the lines of features already seen in solutions such as ChatGPT and the Google Bard. The second function would be integrated into the Samsung gallery and would allow you to compress a video or apply slow motion to any part of the recording, without the need to use a dedicated app.

With the exception of the text summary, most of the features do not appear to be revolutionary, but it is likely that the giant is relying on convenience and better quality results to highlight its “Galaxy AI”. The news should become clearer during the Galaxy S24 family announcement, which will take place on January 17, at 3pm Brasilia time. It’s also possible that, by then, we’ll have new rumors that will explain in a more practical way what we can expect from the debut mobile phones.
