Warning, spoilers. Before continuing reading this article, it is recommended to watch the Berlin series. Some elements of La Casa de Papel also appear in the following paragraphs.
The series derived from La Casa de Papel, Berlin is a prequel focused on Andres de Fonolosa, aka Berlin. He is one of the most iconic characters from the original series. This spin-off tells the story of Berlin’s biggest heist: the theft of 44 million euros worth of jewelry from a Paris auction house.
And La Casa de Papel fans know it’s one of Berlin’s (Pedro Alonso) greatest weapons ever since Tokio (Úrsula Corberó) introduces it to her in the first episode of Pina, Alex’s series:
“Mr. Berlin, wanted by the police. Twenty-seven robberies. Jewelry stores, auction rooms, armories. His greatest success: Champs-Élysées, Paris, 434 diamonds. He’s a shark in a swimming pool. We swim together. Him, but always on the alert.”

For this heist of the century, Berlin assembled one of his favorite gangs, consisting of Kayla (Michelle Jenner), Damian (Tristan Ulloa), Cameron (Begona Vargas), Roy Julio Peña and Bruce (Joel Sanchez).
Obviously, such a big hit attracts the attention of the police. And not just any of them, as French Commissioner Marie Lavelle (Rachel Lascard), the head of the organized crime unit, will collaborate with high-ranking Spanish police officers.
Two heroes from La Casa de Papel return to Berlin!
And it’s no secret that these two policewomen are familiar to fans of La Casa de Papel, as they were featured in the official trailer for the Berlin series. They are Raquel Murillo (Iciaar Ituno), who will become Lisbon by joining the professor’s (Alvaro Morte) gang, and Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri), who will also collaborate with the professor.
Since Berlin is a prequel to La Casa de Papel, Raquel and Alicia are still unfamiliar with the famous criminal. In this spin-off series, Raquel is the head of the Criminal Intelligence Unit in Spain, while Alicia is introduced as a sub-inspector for Spain’s Europol.
So does this appearance of Raquel and Alicia change the consistency of the universe of La Casa de Papel? Because in the original series, Raquel doesn’t recognize Berlin when her identity is revealed to the media in the first part of the series.
Sister Berlin dies before Alicia enters the La Casa de Papel dance in Part 3 of the series to fill the vacancy left by Raquel, who switched sides and joined the professor she fell in love with and his gang.
Therefore, their presence in the Berlin prequel does not change the coherence and continuity of the world of La Casa de Papel. Especially since the police do not arrest the well-known criminal and his gang at the end of Berlin. They manage to cover their tracks and Raquel and Alicia are unable to find their identities.
The entire series of La Casa de Papel and Berlin is available on Netflix.
