They liked it
Gautier DEROUBAIX (5/5):Fantastic, beautiful, wonderful. Very poignant story, very beautiful pictures, 5 star production. The director shows these stories on the big screen.”
Frederick M. (4/5):A brilliant, exciting, relevant, shocking film is a slap in the face of an ongoing disturbing fact. We understand and accept the concept of freedom, which seems naturally acquired to us, but not to everyone else. The acting is excellent, very beautiful work, beautiful photography. A must see movie to learn some values. Thanks again to Allo Ciné for the preview.“
Direct-actu.fr (4/5): “A lesson in courage and humility. A film that recalls the hell that these economic migrants go through just to try to change the lives of their families by trying to settle in Europe. They are not profiteers of the system, but heroes! This film raises awareness of the pain behind the migration of these people from countries with difficult economic climates. Announcing this humanistic film with Seydoux Sarr.”

Speed (3/5): ”We wish we could see only positives in Matteo Garone’s film! Of course, there are many positives in “I am the captain”, if only all these scenes where the director gives the audience the feelings of migrants, but we do not regret that we really struggled to get into such a fairy tale film. Which is a bit too much like a catalog of tragedies that migrants can experience “on their way” to Europe. We also regret the choice of conditions for the departure of the two main characters, a choice that will allow certain viewers to reinforce the idea that there is no reason to accept men and women in Europe whose lives or freedom are at risk. The only motivation for leaving their country is economic.”
(2/5): “A mediocre and monotonous mural, clumsy, yet attractive. We come out without understanding or knowing the characters, who don’t have much depth to their characters, or what they imagine they’ll find in Europe, or what they’re leaving behind or running from. Almost all the action focuses on the migration and its “adventure”, chronologically, without perspective, without subtlety, without delving into people or circumstances. The actors are hardly believable except for the mother. This epic, which should be moving, only surprises and turns out to be long and frustrating. Substantial subject matter, but a bad film that still has the enormous merit of showing an underrepresented reality in whatever form or medium.“
PL All (2/5): “Subject worked to the point of tedium, seen-and-done script that fits its pitch, banal production, boring film that makes you wonder what the point is. Avoid.”
