Zagallo won titles at Vasco in the 80s and 90s




Mário Jorge Lobo Zagallo was a world legend, but he left his main traces in Rio de Janeiro football. He managed all four big clubs in Rio. At Vasco, Velho Lobo was manager twice (1980-1981 and 1990-1991) and won four titles with the club.

Although he did not have great success, “Formiguinha”, as he was called, was the champion of seven friendly tournaments.

  • João Havelange Tournament: 1981
  • Adolfo Bloch Cup: 1990

Zagallo played for Flamengo and Botafogo, coached Fluminense and Vasco. He also played for Bangu and foreign teams, such as: the teams of Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, as well as the Al Hilal club, where Neymar currently plays. He ended his career at the 2006 World Cup.

The funeral wake of Mario Jorge Lobo Zagallo will take place at the CBF headquarters, in Rio de Janeiro, this Sunday (7). The ceremony will be open to the public, so that fans can say goodbye to the great idol, and will begin at 9:30 am (Brasilia time).
