“Sensitive, disturbing, masterful”: rating 3.8 out of 5, this film is a must-see at the cinema

Priscilla, Sofia Coppola’s eighth feature film, hits theaters this week. Focusing not on Elvis, as Baz Luhrmann had recently done, but on Priscilla Presley, the King’s companion from 1967 to 1973, the biopic was very well received by the French press: its average rating is 3.8/5 (on AlloCiné, 38 for media).

While that rating isn’t far off from the director’s first masterpieces (Virgin Suicides got a 4.4/5 and Lost in Translation 4.5), it’s higher than all of his films since 2011.

“From a formal point of view, we are in a Sofia Coppola film, with a steamy atmosphere that emphasizes the boredom of the wife who is often left alone in Graceland. Basically, the film leaves many impressions.” (Reno Baronian) 3/5
