The live-action film How to Train Your Dragon will star Gerard Butler as Hiccup’s father

The live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon” has earned a big name for the cast, who are already accustomed to the franchise.

As reported by expiration, Gerard Butler (300) will play Stoick, the father of the protagonist Hiccup. The actor, who already voiced the character in the animations, will now reprise the role, only in the flesh.

The film is scheduled to premiere on June 13, 2025. It was originally scheduled for March 14, but the Hollywood writers’ strike delayed the plans.

“How to Train Your Dragon” was released in theaters in 2010, with two sequels, in 2014 and 2019. The 3 animations were hugely successful on the big screen, earning more than $1.6 billion for Universal Pictures.

The story is based on a series of children’s books by Cressida Cowell.

The information comes from Omelette.

A little history of How to Train Your Dragon

Hiccup is a young Viking different from the others. Small, thin and peaceful, he doesn’t understand why his people are so violent. More: he doesn’t agree with the local tradition of fighting dragons.

The protagonist’s life changes when he finds and heals the wound of one of these creatures. Together, they try to prove that dragons and humans can be friends.

Let’s wait and see the quality of the CGI of these dragons in live-action. Toothless is one of the highlights of the original trilogy. The decision to include dog and cat elements went a long way in generating public sympathy.

And just a curiosity to finish the text: in the books, Toothless is green and red and the size of an iguana. The decision to make it all black and powerful was supported by author Cressida Cowell. And he worked better in theaters.
