It’s true that superhero movies are in something of a crisis. Or a drop in performance. But this criticism applies more to Disney/Marvel. DC… well, you can’t talk about the decline of something that hasn’t even resurrected, right?
Seriously, it’s a fact that the DCEU (DC Extended Universe in theaters) was not successful. So much so that Warner Bros. Now bet on a new DCU, starting everything from scratch.
The boss of the whole thing will be director James Gunn, responsible for the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy in the rival MCU, as well as producing the hits “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.”
Gunn has been bombarded on social media with questions about the new venture. And the nice thing is that he answers a lot of things in Threads.
One of these doubts concerned the return of actress Margot Robbie in the role of the villain Harley Quinn. This is one of the few things that worked in this last phase of the study.
Even though the “Suicide Squad” films were bad, Margot’s performance was applauded by audiences and critics alike.
Will he come back or not?
The director said that, at the moment, there are no plans for the character’s return to the DCU. But if that happened, he would obviously like her to be played by the actress.
“I haven’t spoken to Margot about Harley in a long time. But I would love to work with her again, whether she plays Harley or another character. There are no plans at this time for anyone else to play Harley, with the exception of Lady Gaga in Joker 2 and the voice actresses in the cartoons.
The doubt was raised after the recent statements of Barbie’s protagonist, who stated that she “had always wanted the character to be played by other actresses”.
And just to avoid confusion, when Gunn mentioned Lady Gaga, she will, yes, be bringing Harley Quinn back to life in theaters, but in a film that isn’t part of the DCU.
Yes, it’s confusing. But Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and Robert Pattinson’s Batman films will take place in a kind of parallel universe (each in their own), which will exist under a label called Elseworlds.
And after all, what will the DCU be?
The information comes from Screen triggering.
