Before La Bande à Fifi, Les Robins des bois, Les Inconnus or even Les Nuls, France in the mid-70s knew another group of young comedians with a bright future.
In 1974, Christian Clavier, Gérard Junot, Thierry Lhermitte, Jossien Balasco, Michel Blanc and Marie-Anne Chazelle (to name just a few) opened Café du Splendid, which would also name the group they formed together.
After success on stage, they transferred their world to the big screen, with several feature films that have become cult over time, such as Les Bronzés (to which we have already dedicated a quiz) and its sequel Les Bronzés sont du ski (which you can also play with), or even Le Père Noël est une.
The origin of the latter film will be broadcast tonight on France 4 in the second part of the evening. Do you still remember its film adaptation that hit our screens in 1982 and has since been relegated to the small screen numerous times over the decades? That’s what we’re going to test with this 9-question quiz, following Jean-Marie Poiret’s filmmaking secrets.

Padvertising problem
Released in August 1982, Le Père Noël est une ordure ran into publicity problems when it reached French cinemas. RATP and the city of Paris actually refused to rent advertising space for the film’s poster because its title was considered politically incorrect.
American remake
Santa Claus is the subject of a later American remake. The movie titled Mixed Nuts was directed by Nora Ephron in 1994, starring Steve Martin, Juliette Lewis and Adam Sandler.
Alternative title
A rather dark satire on society under the guise of humor, Santa Claus Is Trash was originally supposed to be called Santa Claus Shot in the Ass. A title that was eventually abandoned because it was too damaging.
