Wonka continues to top the US box office charts

The year has just begun and Hollywood already has a candidate for the darling of 2024.

After ending 2023 at the top of the American box office, the musical “Wonka” maintained its position in the first week of the new year.

And the most impressive thing is that the film has been out for 4 weeks, and the public seems not to have lost interest in this story that introduces the protagonist of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.

In the first weekend of 2024, the film added another $14.4 million to its total earnings, surpassing the $465 million mark worldwide.

The figure already represents more than triple the film’s cost to Warner Bros. ($125 million).

The Timothée Chalamet factor

Perhaps Hollywood’s favorite is not “Wonka” itself, but the protagonist Timothée Chalamet.

Film experts are full of praise for the 28-year-old, considered one of the greatest talents of the new generation. And he’s quite precocious.

His acting debut occurred at the age of 13, in 2009, in the series “Law & Order”.

In 2017, he starred in the film “Call Me by My Name” and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor, making him the third youngest in history to compete in this category.

He had previously made other successful films, but as a supporting actor – he was, for example, Tom from “Interstellar”, the son of Cooper, Murphy’s brother.

Chalamet also plays Paul Atreides in “Dune.” The sequel to the film, in fact, will debut on March 14 (and I really can’t wait!)

The information comes from Omelette.
