Daredevil: The Netflix series is officially part of the MCU

It’s one of Marvel Studios’ most anticipated series of 2024 and has been the subject of many twists and turns since production began. Impacted by the writers’ strike, Daredevil: Born Again underwent a complete overhaul after the directors and writers were forced out.

New team, new direction, new storyline for a “reboot” of superhero fiction. The change, which is part of Marvel Studios’ new strategy for their franchise, will dominate 2024, given that only Deadpool 3 is expected in theaters this year.

On the small screen, Marvel’s year begins with Echo, which centers on Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), then should continue with Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, a spin-off of the WandaVision series, which focuses on the character of Agatha Harkness (Katherine Hahn), but also Ironheart, centering on Riri Williams (Dominic Thorne) and finally Daredevil: Born Again if all goes well.

This new Hell’s Kitchen superhero series will reunite Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), longtime rivals. They try to put aside their darkest alter egos to serve the people of New York, but their past catches up with them.

If their heroes were officially included in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk for Matt Murdock and Hawkeye for Wilson Fisk, the original Daredevil series produced by Netflix was considered for the time being. A stand-alone Marvel production printed on Disney+ under The Defenders category, which has renewed broadcast rights.

The Netflix series Daredevil is legit in the MCU

But today, it seems that Marvel’s Daredevil is considered canon in the MCU, that is, officially integrated with its plots, its characters and its lore, if we believe the words of producer Brad Winderbaum. ScreenRant :

“We’ve been careful up until now about what was and wasn’t part of Sacred Timeline. It was another branch of the company that was developing Netflix content. We knew what they were doing, they knew what we were doing, but first There was a lot more to balance.

But now that some time has passed, now that we see how well the stories are integrated, I personally think and believe that this is part of the sacred timeline. “

This formalization of the Netflix series Daredevil in the MCU makes all the events in the universe that happened within the framework of fiction. It really allowed the new writers to go in a better direction and instead offer a kind of logical reboot/sequel with Daredevil Born Again.

Plus, the original series itself is tied to four other series: Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Guardians, so we can definitely consider them canonical in the MCU as well.

With all these crossovers (the X-Men are also coming to the MCU) and these new upcoming fanfictions, Marvel Studios is going to take the chronology, continuity and consistency of its cinematic and serialized universes more seriously. But will it be enough in a superhero genre that seems to be increasingly tiring of the public?

The Echo series will be available in its entirety on January 10 on Disney+.
