Martin Scorsese is already working on a new film: an adaptation of The Life of Jesus (1973), book by Shūsaku Endō. The director intends to explore the teachings of Jesus without proselytizing. Unlike previous productions, such as The Irishman (2019) and Flower Moon Assassins (2023), the new feature film should be just 80 minutes long, that is, just over an hour long.

“I’m trying to find a new way to make it more accessible and move away from the negative side of what has been associated with organized religions,” he explained. Scorsese in an interview with Los Angeles Times (via NME).

At the moment, ‘religion’… You say that word and everyone comes with seven stones in their hands, because it is flawed in so many ways. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the initial impulse was wrong. Let’s recover. Let’s just think about the possibility. You can reject it. But it can make a difference in how you live your life — even in rejection. Don’t set it aside beforehand. That’s what I’m talking about. And I’m saying this as someone who’s turning 81 in a few days.

Scorsese It is Kent Jones finalized the script, and filming should begin in 2024. Silence (2016) is also an adaptation of a work by Endo.
