To see at the cinema: Daisy Ridley in The Dream Life of Miss Fran… Can you resist the charm of the Star Wars hero in this poetic film?

For many viewers, Daisy Ridley will remain Rey, the hero of the latest Star Wars trilogy. And this is quite normal, because this is the role that he revealed to the general public. But that doesn’t stop him from trying side moves as he prepares to make his return to the intergalactic saga, and Miss Fran’s Dream Life is one of the most compelling examples.

Rachel Lambert’s second feature film is screening at Sundance and the Champs-Elysees in 2023, following an introverted office worker in Oregon. A young single woman with a boring life whose only moments of fantasy are these highly stylized dreams in which she imagines her own death (hence the original title, “Sometimes I think about death”, “Sometimes I think about death”).

But everything changes the day Robert (Dave Mereje), a whimsical and friendly newcomer, pretends to be interested in her. Navigating between dream and reality, this portrait of a sickly shy girl in which many recognize themselves offers Daisy Ridley a role that is the opposite of the energetic and enthusiastic image she has had in the public until now.

Counter-work, real? While in Paris, the actress returns with us to this charming character, which she portrays with economy of words, conveying a lot of emotion with her gaze and expression. Even when it seems to be completely erased. A performance that, we are ready to bet, will make it easier for you and open more doors for you in the future.
