The mayor of the capital of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, asked the population not to use Avenida Brasil: “Road closed! Avoid commuters!”
The heavy rains that hit the North Zone of Rio and the metropolitan region between Saturday (13th) and Sunday (14th) were two missing people, they flooded the streets and compromised the operation of bus and subway lines.
In Belford Roxo fire crews are searching for a woman who went missing after a car fell into the River Botas. In Ricardo Albuquerque, a search is underway for a man buried after a building collapse.
On Avenida Brasil, the main street of the capital Rio de Janeiro, several cars were trapped in the flood near the Irajá neighborhood, north of Rio.
“Do not use Avenida Brasil this morning. The road is closed! Avoid travelling! Too many people on the street hinder the action of public agents”the mayor posted on social media Eduardo Pees (PSD). Watch the video below:

The mayor has canceled the agendas scheduled for this Sunday (14th) and, according to the municipal administration, is monitoring the work of the operational teams in the northern area of the city.
According to the Secretariat of State for Civil Protection, in the last 24 hours firefighters intervened in over 150 rain-related incidents, including rescues, floods, tree felling and landslides.
In the early hours of this Sunday (14th), the city of Rio de Janeiro entered alert stage 4, the second most serious, and it was necessary to activate 29 sirens in 16 communities of the capital.
