Claro TV+ has revealed that, starting this Tuesday (16th), its subscription plan will include content from one of the most used streaming services in Brazil: Netflix. The new option, unprecedented in this case, aims to overcome the decline in pay TV hiring, as well as support the fight against “gatonet”.
The partnership with Netflix represents an innovation in our market and makes our strategy of improving the customer experience tangible, aggregating the main contents on the market on a single platform that integrates TV channels, streaming and video on demand with a series of advantages for our customers. Claro tv+ thus strengthens its positioning as a content hub that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of pay TV
Ricardo Falcão, director of Claro TV+.
According to IBGE, with the advent of streaming services (which already suffer from strong competition due to a market full of options), the percentage of households with a pay TV plan has dropped from 33.9% to 27.7 %, between 2016 and 2022. The analysis also showed that the decline occurred at the same time as the increase in streaming, which reached 43.4% of Brazilian homes in the same period.
According to UOL, the expectation is that, with the inclusion of Netflix in Claro TV’s plans, starting from the second half of 2024, the company will already see an improvement in its numbers. However, Falcão underlined on the portal that, despite the strong competition with streaming, piracy remains the biggest rival of pay-TV.
The new Claro TV+ plan with Netflix is available from this Tuesday (16th) at R$ 109.90. Those who already have a streaming subscription can also join the plan, with access optionally migrated to the Claro TV+ app – so only one subscription will be charged. In practice, streaming services (both Netflix and Globoplay) become part of the television offer as if they were channels in the package.
Netflix is on a mission to create great stories and give people around the world more choice and control. And, in pursuit of this goal, through this partnership with Claro, we are making it even easier for Brazilian consumers to access films and series from around the world.
Thiago Moreira, vice president of partnerships and business development at Netflix in Latin America.
