He is one of the most popular American comedians in the Atlantic Ocean, but Adam Sandler is also a very talented dramatic actor. Most notably appearing with Paul Thomas Anderson (Punch-Drunk Love) and the Safdie brothers (Uncut Gems), the latter will be seen next March in Spaceman, a new Netflix production.
In the feature film by Johan Renck (director of the Chernobyl series), Adam Sandler plays astrophysicist Jakub Prochazka, who is sent on an exploration mission far from Earth.
Left to his own devices and estranged from his wife Lenka (Carey Mulligan), who fears she will start a new life in his absence, Jakub then befriends a strange alien creature (original by Paul Dano).
Adapted from a Czech novel
Spaceman is an adaptation of a Czech novel Astronaut in Bohemia (2007), written in the form of a fable, with a critical view of his life and the memory left by the Soviet occupier. Apparently, the political nature of the original work was not preserved in this version, the film decided to stick to the relationship between Jakub and Lenka.
The feature film also stars Kunal Nayyar and Italian actress Isabella Rossellini, while Channing Tatum is credited as a producer through his production company Free Association. Spaceman can be seen exclusively on Netflix starting March 1.
True to the platform, Adam Sandler, who starred in Almost a Dream , will soon star in a new Netflix production directed by Noah Baumbach alongside co-star George Clooney.
