The Snow Society, film depicting the biggest plane crash of the 1970s (and which became known as the Tragedy of the Andes), just arrived on Netflix and has already clocked up 68.3 million hours, making it onto the list of non-English language films most watched in the history of streaming. By the numbers, the film passed Below zeroformer owner of the 10th place in the rankings.
In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, chartered to take a rugby team to Chile, crashed in the heart of the Andes. Only 29 of the 45 passengers survived the accident. Trapped in one of the most hostile and inaccessible environments on the planet, they must resort to extreme measures to survive.
Synopsis.
Even though it was released a few days ago, Snow Society had time to be nominated at the Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards 2024. In the Best Foreign Language Film category, however, the Spanish production ended up losing to the French Anatomy of a fall (another great film) at both awards.
Hopes now rest with the 2024 Oscars, as it has been selected to compete for a place among the Best International Film nominees.
The main cast of Snow Society is made up of Enzo Vogrincic (Numa Turcatti), Agustín Pardella (Nando Parrado), Matías Recalt (Roberto Canessa), Esteban Kukuriczka (Fito Strauch), Rafael Federman (Eduardo Strauss) and Valentino Alonso (Pancho Delgado).
