After the catastrophe averted in 1963, members of the Umbrella Academy return to the present, confident that they have avoided the initial apocalypse and observed the continuity of time, once and for all. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize that everything is not as they left it. This is where a group called Sparrow Academy operates. Smart, loved like a hip and prison door, its members immediately clash at the Umbrella Academy in a violent confrontation that bothers them the least.
Switching to Netflix in 2020, the second season of Umbrella Academy ended exactly with a meeting between the characters of the series and Sparrow Academy, the only member of which was not hiding in the shadows was Ben. Yes, yes, Ben (Justin H. Min), the late brother of Luther and company.
At the beginning of Season 3, the Hargreaves siblings quickly realize that this is an alternative (and quite unbearable) version of Ben who grew up with other siblings and who does not have the same personality. After meeting his future children in 1963, Sir Reginald (Colm Feore) did indeed choose to adopt seven children born on October 1, 1989, and establish not an umbrella academy but a sparrow academy.
But, as the problems afflict the skin of the Hargreaves, their arrival will begin in this parallel reality … the beginning of the destruction of the universe! And so, for the third time in their lives, the characters of the series will have to find a way to avoid the apocalypse.
More in-depth characters
If this repetition can be delayed by more than one, it also has a comic side, as even the characters, starting with five (Aidan Gallagher), show the assumption that they are tired of the idea of saving the world. What a pleasure to find the protagonist and his family just as attractive and dysfunctional.
All of its members also have time to shine through the season and experience exciting personal events: Luther (Tom Hopper) has a clash that allows him to question what he really wants in life, Ellison (Amy Raver-Lampman) struggles to make a living The fact is that her daughter and her husband do not exist in this reality and Klaus (Robert Sheehan) is getting closer and closer to his adoptive father, who will definitely be slightly different in this world.
The interaction between Diego (David Castaneda) and Lila (Ritu Aria) is also always so delicious, and Vania (Elliot Page) announces the announced sex change of character easily. This especially shows the beautiful scenes between those who are now called Victor and his sister who is calling No. 7 to herself.

The relationship between the two is also one of the deepest in the season, with ups and downs, because if the Elliott Page character’s transition doesn’t bother Alison, her secret, they, much more. The point, of course, is that the Hargreaves family, as we know it, has been around for two seasons, and despite its shortcomings, obscures newcomers, who for the most part remain quite caricatured.
Action and fun are always there
Therefore, for the Sparrow Academy, of course, it will be difficult to replace the umbrella academy in the hearts of the viewers, because first of all, thanks to the members of the latter, vectors of beautiful emotions, the interest in the series is maintained for years. .
Neither penny is boring and once again accompanied by a peep-filled soundtrack, this third season also gives a clearly good part of the quarrel between the two families quite pleasantly and, of course, with humor: the Hargreaves always have that touch. The madness that gives Umbrella Academy all its salt! Absurd and chaotic scenes follow each other and we never get bored.
Enough to entertain 10 episodes, as explosive as crazy, while you wait for the inevitable – at least, hopefully – season 4, which will have to answer the many unanswered questions left after the finale, a little too mysterious to be satisfying.
Umbrella Academy Season 3 is available on Netflix.
