Disney+: One of the most famous and mysterious fashion designers is the focus of a new series

Before revealing the inimitable Karl Lagerfeld in a series of Kaiser Karl events, Disney+ now focuses on another icon of the fashion world who left his mark in the history of haute couture: Cristóbal Balenciaga, the famous Spanish designer.

In six episodes, the original series dedicated to him recalls the impressive career of this rather discreet and mysterious couturier. A great opportunity for fashion enthusiasts to learn a little more about the man who was able to revolutionize the industry while staying in the shadows!

Who are you, Grandmaster of Haute Couture?

A common theme is a 1971 Times interview with Cristóbal Balenciaga, an exercise in which he rarely if ever participated, the series chronicles the designer’s 30 years in France.

From his first Paris collection in 1937 to his meteoric rise to mastery of haute couture, the episodes cover eras and trends, through the encounters and trials that shaped Balenciaga’s style.

Because everything was not always clear for the designer. His first Parisian creations struggled for conviction, but fortunately he found inspiration in art and traditional Spanish clothing and the support of his family, especially his companion Vladzio d’Attenville.

He can also count on the admiration of his peers, starting with Coco Chanel, but also his great rival Christian Dior.

On screen, these legends of the fashion world are portrayed by a star-studded cast: actor Alberto San Juan plays the title role, surrounded by Anouk Greenberg (L’Innocent, La Nuit du 12) as Coco Chanel and Patrice. Thomas Koemans, Josean Bengoetchea, Cecilia Solaguren and Adam Quintero play Cristóbal Balenciaga’s entourage, while British actress Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones) plays Times journalist Prudence Glynn.

Finally, Nine d’Urso, Anne-Victoire Olivier, Gabrielle Lazure and Belén Cuesta (La Casa de Papel) complete this international cast. The dialogue of the series skillfully alternates between Spanish, French and English.

One of the first original Spanish productions on the Disney+ platform, Cristóbal Balenciaga also benefits from the expertise of directors Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga, winners of 13 Goya Awards, and co-creators of the series, along with Lourdes Iglesias.
