The Norwegian had a fantastic year in 2023, helping Manchester City win the Triple Crown
The Norwegian Erling Haaland was named best player in the world at Globe Soccer Awards. The event, which brings together football’s leading stars, rewarded the centre-forward after a magical year in which he scored 50 goals and won the Triple Crown with Manchester City.
The ceremony was dominated by Cristiano Ronaldo, who took home the awards for Fans’ Favorite Player, Best Player from the Middle East and the Maradona Trophy for World Top Scorer of the Year. Haaland’s teammates, goalkeeper Ederson, midfielder Rodri and manager Pep Guardiola were decorated for being the best in their respective roles, and City won the award for best club in the world.
– Manchester City is a fantastic club and I love playing here. I hope to get back from the injury as soon as possible, I’m tired of not playing! – joked the Norwegian.
Haaland ended up not winning the other awards celebrating the world’s best, with FIFA and France Football magazine choosing Messi for the post. The current holder of the award given by Globe Soccer was Karim Benzema, who shone in 2022 with the Real Madrid shirt and won the Champions League title.
