L’Arnacoeur by Pascal Chaumeil, with Roman Diour, Vanessa Paradis, Julie Ferrier, François Damien … Available on Netflix until June 30, 2022.

Almost a true story

The late Pascal Schomeil’s first feature film, L’Arnacoeur, is a 2010 French romantic comedy. All the ingredients were for success, a delicious duet between Roman Diour – Vanessa Paradis, Julie Ferrie and François Damien. Revival of Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually, The Walking Dead) and Dirty Dancing.

This film, which tells the story of an impossible romance between a professional couple breaker and a young heir, hit the box office in France with just under 4 million releases. And that success was also critical, as L’Arnacoeur garnered five César nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor, which is quite rare for a comedy of this caliber.

Aside from the five-star cast and explosive humor, it was the film’s story that hit the mark. And this screenplay is by Laurent Zeitun, who was inspired by family history and wrote with Jeremy Donner and John Grom:

“My first cousin loved the nasty guy who made him unhappy. He had his ex-tattoo tattooed on his arm and claimed he still loved him! He said, ‘We need to introduce him to a good guy who opens his eyes.’ And explain what your daughter likes! “The idea for the couple breaker case comes from there!”

If you haven’t seen L’Arnacoeur yet or even want to see it, you only have one week left! The film leaves the Netflix catalog on June 30th.
