Ecuador debuted at the Venezuelan Pre-Olympics on the right foot and with a result that was better than expected. After all, they beat Colombia 3-0, this Saturday (20th), in Caracas, in the first round of Group A of the competition that guarantees a place at the Olympic Games in Paris, between July and August. Brazil is in the same range.
Fory, in the 24th minute of the first half, leaves Colombia with one player less. The coffee makers lasted a long time. Starting from the middle of the second half, however, Ecuador took off: in the 26th minute, Ortiz opened the scoring. Méndez, at 41, has expanded. And Ortiz shined again, soon after, at 43 years old. What a blow!
Also in this group, also this Saturday (20th), the hosts Venezuela drew 3-3 with Bolivia, Lacava, Bolivar and Rivas scored for Vinho Tinto. Mercado, Chávez and Villamíl (this in stoppage time) equalised point. On the Andean side, Sejas was eventually expelled.
The results, therefore, place Ecuador, for now, at the top of the table and Colombia at the bottom. Since the group features five teams, Brazil “slipped” into this round. Coach Ramon Menezes’ team debuts on Tuesday (23rd), at 5pm, against Bolivia.
The two best teams in each group advance to the final quadrangular. Then, the top two get their passport stamped for the Olympics in Paris, France. Brazil is looking for its third gold medal. In the last two editions of the Games he occupied the highest place on the podium (Rio-2016 and Tokyo-2020).
