We forget a little in recent years and a few commercials for a famous coffee brand, but George Clooney is a very good actor. And if there’s a register where he’s truly at ease, it’s comedy. Proof with the Coen brothers’ excellent Intolerable Cruelty, which hit theaters in 2003 and is being screened this Sunday night by Arte.

In Intolerable Cruelty, George Clooney, a very good comedy actor who never really laughed at a Brad Pitt joke, plays Miles Massey, the lawyer you get when you want a divorce. He is bored in his job, but soon he finds the right job for him and sees that a woman standing in his way, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, is determined to take revenge on him. A match begins between them, where everything goes.
Often hilarious, Unbearable Cruelty is a brutal and thrilling romantic comedy about the war of the sexes. A witty and stylish film, brilliantly written, which Joel And Ethan Cohen wanted to add a glamorous dimension. “This is the most fascinating film we’ve ever made!”Two brothers say. “For us, it was about trying something different, but without losing our identity.”
A funny anecdote at the end? With unbearable brutality, George Clooney, who joins the Coen brothers after the unpaid O’Brothers, plays an almost identical scene to one of his previous films. The restaurant table where he bumps into Catherine Zeta-Jones is actually the same restaurant where he tries to seduce Julia Roberts in Ocean’s Eleven!
Tonight on Arte at 9 o’clock.
