Mean Girls: the musical, version of the 2004 original, debuted Jan. 12 in the United States and remains at the top, according to data from Box Office Mojo. In its second week in theaters, Tina Fey’s (Srt.ᵃ Norbury in the original) film grossed another $11.7 million over the weekend, for a total of $50 million so far.
Bad Girls: The Musical has in the cast, in addition to the return of Fey, who also holds the role of director, and Tim Meadows (Mr. Duvali), Busy Philipps (The white girls), Angourie Rice (Two good guys), Auli’i Cravalho (Almost a Rockstar), Reneé Rapp, Jon Hamm and singer Jaquel Spivey.
The remake revives a well-known plot – the arrival of a new high school student who faces the wrath of a popular girl and her friends – but with different characters.
A hit of the 2000s, the original teen film follows Cady (Lindsey Lohan), a girl who moves from Africa to the United States and finds it difficult to adjust to high school and the laws of popularity that divide her peers.
Directed by Mark Waters, Bad Girls It grossed $130.1 million worldwide and became a cult classic, earning praise for its screenplay and direction (which also featured Fey).
