In the movie, the saint is not with Roger Moore, as in the series, but with Val Kilmer! Released in 1997 and currently available on TF1+, this action movie is very good entertainment, but has a rather low rating on AlloCiné, averaging 2.1 out of 5. But you should see it anyway, for three reasons!
Simon Templar, nicknamed “The Saint”, is a professional thief who steals a microchip from a Russian oil company. He is immediately noticed by Ivan Tretyak, the oligarch who owns the chip.
Tretyak asks Templar to outdo himself by stealing a revolutionary formula to create a new energy of which he would be the sole distributor.
Reason #1: Val Kilmer
The absolute star of the film, at the time driven by the success of Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever, in which he played Batman, Val Kilmer explodes! Accents, hairstyles, disguises, we clearly think of another thief who knows these kinds of tricks: the famous Arsene Lupin.
He makes a very good duo with Elizabeth Shue and plays six characters, all with different looks, personalities and voices! A small achievement that gives the film undeniable activity and recalls the versatility of Val Kilmer – a little forgotten today.
Reason #2: Mission: Impossible Side

The Saint is directed by Philip Noyce, director of A Quiet American, The Road to Freedom and two feature films starring Harrison Ford: War Games and Immediate Danger. Its staging is pretty solid, even if there are too many (too many) close-ups of Val Kilmer.
The film shares some characteristics with the Mission: Impossible saga, as it features a hero who likes to disguise himself, a small operation that hides a larger plot, a good dose of action, but measured, and a heist that has unexpected consequences.
Reason #3: A new movie is coming!

96 years after its creation by Leslie Charteris, The Saint experiences a new adventure directed by Doug Liman, to whom we owe Memory in Cannes and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. This is actor Regé-Jean Page, discovered in the Netflix series The Bridgerton Chronicles and later seen in The Gray Man and Dungeons & Dragons, who plays the thief Simon Templar.
