Joseph Kosinski, director of the Formula 1 film, intends to use the same strategy as the production with Tom Cruise
Top Gun: Maverick brought a debate about the exaggerated use of CGI in place practical effects. Excessive CGI doesn’t please the director Joseph Kosinskiresponsible for a feature film about formula 1 – the most important single-seater car competition – produced by Apple TV+.
In an interview with The Wrap (via E-Popcorn), Kosinski stated, “Certainly, seeing people reacting to a film authentically captured on camera as top gun makes us feel good that our approach works and is appreciated by the public. It’s almost funny to see people in love with the real picture.”
For the filmmaker, after decades of evolution of computer graphics and excessive use in some genres, as in the films of Marvel and A.Daudience has lost touch with practical effects – which bring a sense of greater realism.
They’re so used to CGI being a big movie tool that when you actually shoot something, it feels innovative.
The plan for the film is to film real Formula 1 races to deliver the full experience to the audience. The British pilot and seven-time champion, Lewis Hamilton, will participate in the project. Furthermore, Brad Pitt confirmed as the main character.
Joseph Kosinski is not the only member of the Top Gun 2. Ehren Kruger returns to the team as screenwriter. There is still no title or release date set for the production.
