Verdão has denied interest in Júnior Santos and believes that the loss of the Brazilian title has affected the North American entrepreneur greatly
The soap opera Palmeiras x John Textor added another chapter this Tuesday (23). After the news that Verdão would be interested in signing Júnior Santos, from Botafogo, the North American entrepreneur joked that the Sao Paulo team should “buy elsewhere”. Hours later, Alviverde reported that there is no move to sign the Glorioso striker and has decided not to join the ranks of the Rio club’s SAF owner.
Behind the scenes at Palmeiras, it is believed that the loss of the Brazilian title last year really hit home for the American businessman. Furthermore, Verdão says that John Textor acts like an old-fashioned top hat. Finally, he states that the foreign tycoon is trying to fuel a rivalry that never existed.
In 2023, Botafogo lost the Brazilian championship title to Palmeiras in the final stretch. The entrepreneur led controversies that involved Brazilian arbitration and the Sao Paulo club itself. In the direct clash between the teams, at the Nilton Santos stadium, when Palmeiras won 4-3, Alvinegro had defender Adryelson sent off towards the end of the match. The move outraged Textor, still on the sidelines. Since then the American has argued with Alviverde.
After winning the Brazilian title, Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, even called John Textor unbalanced. At the time the entrepreneur had insinuated that Alviverde would benefit from winning the cup.
“It makes me strange because I think the owner is unbalanced. Botafogo has been at the top of the championship for so long, this causes all these problems, the turbulence and the loss of this championship, I think Textor has become unbalanced,” he said Leila Pereira.
