In 2020, the PT launched 1,263 candidacies to lead the country’s municipalities, but only 183 were elected. The victory percentage of Lula’s party was 14%. The PL had 970 candidates and managed to win in 345 municipalities, with a success rate of 36%.

Even without elected mayors in the capitals, the PT managed to achieve important victories in populous municipalities of Greater São Paulo, such as Diademwhich has around 430 thousand inhabitants, and Mawa, with 472 thousand. PT members also gained control of strategic cities Minas Gerais AS Pointwith a population of 620 thousand people, and Juiz de Forawith 540 thousand.

The PL also did not win in the capitals, but managed to have mayors in the big cities Pernambuco AS Cape of Santo Agostinhowith 208 thousand inhabitants, and Jaboatão dos Guararapeswith 643 thousand.
