Once again, Netflix outpaced its rivals in movie nominations . Streaming, which has continued to lead among streaming services since 2020, received 18 nominations in the 2024 edition, including that for best film, the most important category of the competition (and which it has never won).
Netflix and the Oscar editions
According to the ranking drawn up by Variety, among the more traditional producers, Universal is obviously in the lead. The studio earned 13 nominations thanks to the resounding success of Oppenheimerthe third highest-grossing film of 2023: it was featured in every major awards show around the world.
The production company is followed by A24, which received seven nominations and was the only studio to place two films in the Best Picture race with Past lives AND The area of interest – the studio was the leader in nominations in 2023, being the night’s big winner with the Best Picture award for Everything in Every Place at the Same Time.
Neon also earned seven nominations, all for Anatomy of a fallwhich also competes in the main category of .
