Netflix: Ben Affleck stars (yes, yes) in this hit comedy!

The top 10 most watched movies on Netflix sometimes welcome some pleasant surprises, providing an opportunity to see or review movies that are sometimes unfairly forgotten. This week, the adorable father-daughter duo with Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler is in a good position in the ratings, which is proof that it has won over subscribers.

In Manhattan, Olly Trinke (Ben Affleck) is an advertising executive whose wife dies suddenly. Alone with a child, she breaks down, loses her job, and moves back in with her father in New Jersey, far from New York.

There he finds a grocery job that allows him to provide for the future of his daughter Gertie, whom he adores. While renting his favorite movie, he meets Maya (Liv Tyler), who helps him give new meaning to his life.

At the time of its release, Father and Daughter caused a lot of ink, as it was directed by Kevin Smith, previously known for his quirky and cheeky comedies, who here presents a “serious” film about fatherhood. The main character is broken and at the end of the rope.

Marvel fans hated Daredevil, Ben Affleck’s performance in Father and Daughter was heavily criticized at the time, but we can admit that he did very well against Liv Tyler, who just finished The Lord of the Rings.

Father and Daughter is certainly a sentimental film that may sound like a cliché, but it lives up to its reputation. Kevin Smith and Affleck’s post-Intrepid tone shift has often worked against a feature film that might have initially been discovered without these elements of context finding its audience. Great revenge!
