In Manhattan, Olly Trinke (Ben Affleck) is an advertising executive whose wife dies suddenly. Alone with a child, she breaks down, loses her job, and moves back in with her father in New Jersey, far from New York.
There he finds a grocery job that allows him to provide for the future of his daughter Gertie, whom he adores. While renting his favorite movie, he meets Maya (Liv Tyler), who helps him give new meaning to his life.

Father and Daughter is certainly a sentimental film that may sound like a cliché, but it lives up to its reputation. Kevin Smith and Affleck’s post-Intrepid tone shift has often worked against a feature film that might have initially been discovered without these elements of context finding its audience.
