The player shone at Corinthians a few years ago
After playing for teams such as América-MG, Corinthians, Grêmio, Cruzeiro and Bahia, Rodriguinho, also known as “Reidriguinho”, officially announced his retirement at the age of 36, after spending the 2023 season defending Cuiabá.
Much remembered by Timão fans, between 2015 and 2018, he played 150 games, with 32 goals and 19 assists, as well as winning two Brazilian and Paulista titles. His career led him, in fact, to call up the Brazilian national team, where he played two friendlies, against Colombia and Australia.
Rodriguinho has explained why he decided to retire. In his words, age was “catching up”, but physical problems were also starting to limit his football.
– This idea had been brewing for a long time. I kept thinking about the right time to stop, which wasn’t easy. But physical problems have also had an impact, my spine makes it impossible for me to do many of the things I did before. Three years ago I was already looking for other paths – she explained.
Next steps
Even though he is now off the field, the former athlete intends to pursue a career in football. Now, as a football agent, alongside the entrepreneur Dudu Cearense. Now he will manage the athletes. The idea was born as a way to stay close to sport, even without being able to play.
– Continuing in football will be a joy, now working in another way, helping athletes off the pitch. I had been preparing for a long time and was looking for a new role close to football. I started studying, analyzing the business and met my partners, who showed me this new path. I found myself in that moment. I thought, “This is me, this is what I’m going to do.” I managed to find myself again – he highlighted.
