MG: A 12-year-old girl lying dead on the sidewalk was raped and asphyxiated

A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder, rape of a vulnerable person, corruption of a minor and procedural fraud

The 12-year-old girl, found dead on a sidewalk in the Bela Vista neighborhood of Belo Horizonte on February 16, was raped and asphyxiated. The information was released by Minas Gerais Civil Police (PCMG) this Friday the 26th.

According to the delegate Leandro Alves, the girl’s chest was compressed, so much so that she could not breathe and died. “The victim, in fact, had an epileptic attack, as the investigator stated in the statements, but following the suffocation he suffered”, she explained.

According to the suspect, a 25-year-old man, the victim had asked for a glass of water, so he took it home. He claimed that, on her property, the girl had used loló and she had felt ill, which could have caused her death.

However, forensic examinations showed that he did not use any type of drugs. The images from the security cameras even filmed the suspect while he was carrying the girl’s body and abandoning it on the street.

Understanding crime

Alessandra Wilke, manager State Department of Homicide Investigation and Personal Protection (DHPP)believes that the suspect convinced the girl to accompany him to his home, which was used for sexual practices and drug consumption.

“Many used and unused condoms, traces of drugs were found at the scene and there were also many toys, video cassettes and children’s drawings hanging on the wall,” Alessandra said. She also said that after examining the young woman’s body, it was found that her hymen had broken during the rape.

Although the suspect denied the rape, tests carried out by the PCMG criminal investigation found that the genetic material found in the victim’s body was the same as the suspect’s DNA.

“He thought of every way to cover his tracks, to try to simulate how she would die outside the house, even at the neighbor’s address, to say that he found her at the door of the neighbor’s house, where he would have felt ill,” he said the police chief, who also believes that the young woman was suffocated at the time of the rape.

The boy was charged with the crimes of murder, rape of a vulnerable person, corruption of a minor and procedural fraud. He had already been detained in flagrante delicto on the day of the crime, but the arrest was converted into a preventative one.

Repetition of the crime

The 25-year-old himself, in fact, has a repeat offense. The criminal expert Giovanni Vitral said that as investigations showed he had likely had another victim, they soon linked his case to another rape of a 12-year-old teenager, which occurred in 2021.

Forensics confirmed, using the suspect’s genetic material, his involvement in the crime. “We also analyzed the samples found on the body of this second victim,” the expert said.
