The assistant to one of Bolsonaro’s senators is being investigated for espionage

One of the targets of the federal police operation investigating suspected illegal espionage at the Brazilian intelligence agency (Abin) during the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) works as an advisor to an ally of the former president. Lawyer Ricardo Wright Minussi Macedo is named by the PF as the author of an apocryphal report which sought to link ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) crime faction.

Ricardo Wright is a parliamentary assistant to Senator Alan Rick (União Brasil-AC), a Bolsonaro supporter. The information was released by the Poder360 website and confirmed by Estadao. The lawyer is cited in the order of Supreme Minister Alexandre de Moraes who authorized the operation Close Surveillance: the main target of the offensive, which began the day before yesterday, was the former director of Abin Alexandre Ramagem, now an MP ( PL-RJ).

In Moraes’ paper, Ricardo Wright is credited as the author of a text file called Prévia Nini.docx. According to investigators, it is a report that attempts to link the ministers Alexandre de Moraes and Gilmar Mendes, of the Supreme Court, to members of the PCC. Information with this false content was circulating in Bolsonaro’s groups.

According to the PF, in the last government, a “parallel structure” was installed in the intelligence agency to monitor people considered to be Bolsonaro’s opponents and favor the former president’s children. “The actions presented a serious political bias, representing another event of exploitation of the Brazilian secret services,” the company said.

Office

Lawyer Ricardo Wright is an employee of Alan Rick’s office: he was appointed by the senator himself for the functions he currently carries out. The junior parliamentary assistant had been working for Rick since June 2021, when Acrian was a federal MP. With Rick’s departure to the Senate, Ricardo Wright accompanied the senator in changing the Legislative Chamber. Furthermore, the lawyer has already represented the União Brasil parliamentarian in at least five legal proceedings.

‘Misunderstanding’

In a statement, Alan Rick’s office said the senator has “no control over the private activities of employees.” “After hearing the news, I was informed that he was providing services to the Abin Servers Association as part of his private legal practice,” Rick said. “I have no control over the private activities of my servers.”

The senator also said he has faith in the justice system. “I am confident that the investigation will demonstrate that his name being used in this investigation is nothing more than a misunderstanding,” Rick said. When contacted, Ricardo Wright did not comment until this text was published.

To block

After two consecutive terms as federal MP for Acre, Alan Rick was elected senator in the 2022 elections. He is a journalist, television presenter and evangelical pastor. Early last year, Rick blocked social media accounts on suspicion of supporting the January 8 acts. Minister Alexandre de Moraes granted parliamentary access to the networks only at the request of the President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG).
