Benedict Cumberbatch comments on future at Marvel after Doctor Strange 2: ‘Brilliant character’

The ending and post-credits scenes of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) showed that the hero played by Benedict Cumberbatch will still appear in the future of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – and the actor commented on continuing in the skin of the New York wizard.

In an interview with The New Indian Express, Cumberbatch was asked about the possibility of a possible Doctor Strange 3. In the conversation, the artist made it clear how open he is to the idea, even with nothing confirmed by the disney or marvel studios with the character so far.

“I hope so. I would love to do another movie. Doctor Strange it’s so complex and there seems to be so much more to explore with it. He’s such a brilliant character and I still have so much fun playing him.”

Benedict Cumberbatch almost played a villain in the MCU before Doctor Strange; understand

Benedict Cumberbatch almost entered the MCU with a totally different character. Known for playing the Doctor Strange since 2016, when hero debuted on the big screen, actor almost played villain in Thor.

“The role of Doctor Strange happened after a dance I did for another character in MCU, a minor role. I was bold enough to say, ‘I’m happy to be invited to the party, but I’d rather wait for something a little more juicy. BBC Radio 1 (via comic book).

Cumberbatch received an invitation for the role of malekithantagonist of Thor the Dark World(2013) – a film not so loved by the public. “I didn’t get into the conversation until I heard from representatives who were interested. So I read the comics,” he continued.

Actor was concerned about the hero’s offensive characteristics: “He is very old schoola bit of a misogynist, very much tied to the 1970s. I thought, ‘I’m not sure this is a good role in MCU.’ And they said, ‘It would be today, a modern man. Yes, with some of those traits, but he would have those qualities where he thinks it’s important, ‘because he needed to have that swagger.”
