Road to Perdition (2002)
Perhaps few people know that the gangster drama “Road to Perdition” is based on a graphic novel of the same name written by Max Allan Collins and illustrated by Richard Piers Rayner. Directed by Sam Mendes, the film stars Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Jude Law and Daniel Craig.
Set during America’s Great Depression, the plot follows mob hitman Michael Sullivan (Hanks) and his 12-year-old son (Tyler Hoechlin). After the boy witnesses a murder, the crime boss (Newman) orders the death of Sullivan’s family. Now father and son go on the run and seek revenge for the deaths of other family members.

The Assassin (2023)

One of Netflix’s major releases in 2023, “The Killer,” is also based on a comic book. David Fincher’s film is an adaptation of the graphic novel French book of the same name, written by Alexis “Matz” Nolent and illustrated by Luc Jacamon.
Starring Michael Fassbender, the film follows a methodical professional killer who, after an accident, takes on his employers in an international manhunt.

Signs of Violence (2005)

The film by cult director David Cronenberg is based on a graphic novel written by John Wagner and illustrated by Vince Locke. The thriller stars Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello, Ed Harris and William Hurt.
The plot follows a diner owner (Mortensen) in a small town who ends up becoming a local hero when, using his impressive skills, he stops two criminals from carrying out a robbery. However, as soon as he gains media attention, the facts of his violent past come to light and he must face them to protect his family.

Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013)

Based on graphic novel French film by Julie Maroh, this controversial film received acclaim from specialized critics and won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. The French drama is directed by Abdellatif Kechiche and stars names such as Léa Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos.
The film follows the development of young Adèle’s (Exarchopoulos) life, self-discovery and sexuality over the years. The highlight is her relationship with an older artist (Seydoux).

Old Guy (2003)

The acclaimed and award-winning South Korean film “Oldboy” is actually based on the Japanese manga of the same name by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi. The film is directed by Park Chan-wook and received a Hollywood remake in 2013, directed by Spike Lee.
In the story, a man (Choi Min-sik) is kidnapped and held captive, isolated from the outside world and without receiving any explanation for 15 years. When he is finally freed, he embarks on a journey to discover who imprisoned him and why.
Unfortunately the title is not available for streaming.
