Tonight on TV: Anthony Hopkins helps the FBI catch a serial killer in a thriller, and it’s not The Silence of the Lambs

What if you started your week with an original thriller hosted by a movie legend? This program that will make you drool is Prémonitions, with the impressive Anthony Hopkins in the lead. Something to cheer up your evening!

Released in theaters in 2015, Premonitions immerses audiences in Atlanta as a mysterious serial killer goes on the rampage, leaving the FBI completely helpless. No matter what they do, the investigators are always one step behind, as if the killer could predict their movements!

In desperation, they turn to Dr. John Clancy (Anthony Hopkins, who never spoke to Jodie Foster during the filming of Silence of the Lambs), a retired psychic whose visions have helped them into the past.

Examining the file, Clancy quickly realizes the reason the FBI can’t catch the killer: the latter has the same clairvoyance as him. So how can we stop a killer who can see the future? Then a relentless game of chess begins.

The Premonitions project dates back to the late 90s, when Ted Griffin and Sean Bailey wrote a script about a serial killer who was unsuccessfully hunted by the FBI until a medium intervened.

Convinced of the cinematic potential of this story, the company New Line bought the rights to film it… a continuation of the famous thriller Seven, with Morgan Freeman as Detective Somerset!

But the project fell through, and Seven 2 eventually became Prémonitions, a very well-crafted little B-series led by a great cast: Anthony Hopkinswho always makes an impression the moment he appears on screen, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Negan from The Walking Dead, Abbie Cornish and the wonderful Colin Farrell.

It should be noted that for the sake of realism, the film crew and actors extensively documented the mediums’ work with the police. “There are police units around the world, and in Russia in particular, that get media support. It’s the same in Canada, and some police officers are quite familiar with this phenomenon.”– says Anthony Hopkins.

“I think there are times when the FBI and the police say, ‘Why don’t you try this?’
