Netflix: Rated 3.6 out of 5 This record-breaking movie is getting a sequel in 2023!

Netflix did well in 2023 when it came to animated movies. In addition to Nimona, which was nominated for an Oscar, the platform also offered its subscribers Leo last November, a wonderful little family story featuring a tired 74-year-old lizard (voiced by Adam Sandler in the original version).

When he learns that he only has one year left, he decides to run away to discover life in freedom.

Recording upon release

Upon its release, the title broke the first record: the best launch of an animated film since the creation of Netflix. With 35 million hours watched, Lion further enjoys an effective word of mouth and pretty good reviews.

Its rating of 3.6/5 on AlloCiné does not place it among the best Netflix productions, but Internet users highlight its beautiful graphics, its good values, as well as its attractive characters. A few weeks later, it became the most viewed Netflix animated film on the platform.

Faced with such success, Netflix is logically exploring the possibility of a sequel. A few days ago, Ted Sarandos (Platform co-director) answered the questions of the press About American Animation’s strategy, and Leo 2 is definitely part of it: “We discussed several ideas. Teams are working hard on it.”.

We currently don’t know what the sequel will be about or when it will be released, so we’ll have to be patient.

Animation, a priority for 2024

In a press conference, Ted Sarandos confirmed the company’s desire to focus even more on animation, especially with new partnerships with major studios. In 2024, subscribers will be able to discover new original products that we are talking about here.

But the most anticipated, of course, remains the adaptation of Roald Dahl’s story, The Twits, which should be released in the coming months, as well as The Imaginary, signed by the Studio Ghibli veteran.
