The Marvel Universe continues to slowly reveal its deepest secrets! Thanks to a new book about the company that brought us the Avengers movies, we’re learning how the creative team decided who would die and who would survive at the end of Avengers: Infinity War!

In the studio’s unauthorized biography MCU: Reign of Marvel Studiosexcerpts of which are given Slash movieIt describes how Marvel’s decision-makers made decisions about who would or wouldn’t survive Thanos’ shot at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, which wiped out half the story’s population, the population of the universe.

Tom Holland’s (Spider-Man) Marvel salary was sent to another actor!

During the film’s preparation, chief creative officer Kevin Feige gathered the film’s directors Joe and Anthony Russo, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McPhee, and producer Trinh Tran in a room around which they were presented with cards. MCU characters appear (and therefore possibly die) in the film.

From there, according to Kevin Feige, the decision was made based on what would be “most honest” to the fans. In fact, the cards still had a dollar sign on the back, which ranged from 1 to 5, depending on the actor’s salary, as well as information about his contract status (needing to be renegotiated or not in the film).

Therefore, the choice was made narratively and according to the situation of the actors. It didn’t make sense for Marvel to renegotiate an actor who was no longer under contract (and therefore paying him more than before) only to kill off his character during the film. Hence the fact that Avengers: Endgame mainly contains the six original Avengers, whose contracts already included their participation until this last film, and only a few “free electrons” such as Ant-Man or Rocket.

Avengers: Infinity War still temporarily killed off most of the installed superheroes: Vision, Scarlet Witch, Hank Pym, Wasp, Winter Soldier, Black Panther, Falcon, Star-Lord, Drax, Groot, Doctor Strange and Peter Parker, among others. With this tragic ending, it grossed over $2 billion at the box office.
