The Long Dark could have a sequel after 7 years

Studio has shared the video of a new survival game project yet to be announced

Hinterland, a Canadian developer, shared a video showcasing an as-yet-unannounced survival game in development by the studio. Perhaps, this is the sequel to the acclaimed game The long darklaunched in 2017.

Raphael von Lierop, head of the developer, said in 2022 that he would move away from The Long Dark to start a new studio project. However, he shared a 22-second video on social media, along with the sentence: “There are some good things happening when it comes to unannounced survival games…”.

In the video, made in Unreal Engine 5, we see a seemingly abandoned house, filled with furniture and tapestries and with a burning fireplace, among other details. There’s also a map hanging on the wall, filled with post-it notes, a radio and the word “DAYS” written on the mirror, along with a hand count.

None of this confirms that this is a possible The Long Dark 2, but it certainly shows that we are looking at a survival game scenario in a place whose climate seems to be quite cold, enough to excite fans.

The Long Dark is a game where players must survive in a completely frozen environment after a geomagnetic disaster. There are no enemies such as zombies or monsters, just someone with limited supplies who must face the cold and the challenges imposed by Mother Nature herself.

The original game released in August 2017 for PC (Linux, Mac and Windows), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while the Switch version was released in September 2020.
