Nearly 200 million people have passed through the airport network
The number of passengers at Italian airports broke a record in 2023, reaching 197.2 million.
This is an increase of 2.1% compared to 2019, the last year before the Covid-19 pandemic and holder of the previous record, according to the Italian Association of Airport Managers (Assaeroporti).
“2023 marks the full recovery of the international segment, which reaches 128 million passengers, 0.1% more than 2019,” the body added.
The first moving airport is Rome-Fiumicino, with 40.5 million travellers, followed by Milan-Malpensa (26.1 million), Bergamo (16 million), Naples (12.4 million) and Venice (11.3 million ).
“The sector has left behind the difficult years of the pandemic, during which the airport system lost at least 280 million passengers”, highlighted Assaeroporti. .
