The Central Bank decided on Wednesday to make a new cut of 0.50 percentage points in the Selic rate, to 11.25% annually, and said its board expects cuts of the same intensity at future meetings.

“If the expected scenario is confirmed, the members of the Committee unanimously foresee a reduction of the same amount in the next meetings and assess that this is the appropriate pace to maintain the restrictive monetary policy necessary for the disinflationary process”, informed the Policy Committee monetary (Copom) in a statement.

This was the fifth consecutive reduction in the base interest rate after the BC began its monetary easing cycle with a 0.50 point cut in the Selic in August 2023, maintaining throughout the process the discourse that it would continue at this rate of easing. after you.

With the new cut of 0.50 points, decided unanimously, the Central Bank brings the base interest rate to the lowest level since March 2022, when it was 10.75% per annum.
