Diniz praises the players’ return against Bangu and talks about the possibility of reinforcements due to the flu among the starters

The coach is satisfied with the team after Carioca’s overwhelming victory

The Fluminense players were praised by coach Fernando Diniz, after beating Bangu 4-1, placing themselves at the top of the Campeonato Carioca. In a press conference, the coach talked about the return of the main athletes, the work of Marcão, the possibility of using reinforcements in the starting team, among other topics.

Fernando Diniz explains that he has accelerated the return of the starters in view of the Recopa Sul-Americana against LDU, whose first match will be played on February 22nd.

— The preparation was very good. I let the team play because I noticed that the players returned very well. I had planned a round so as to have at least three matches before the decision against LDU – said Diniz.

As for the newly hired players, the coach responded about the possibility of bringing André back to the role of defender, integrating Renato Augusto into the starting lineup.

— The trend is for it to continue as last year. We have a qualified exit because Felipe Melo played an excellent match, as he also did at the World Cup and the Libertadores. The idea for Felipe was to have him play 45 minutes, so I made the substitution. But it’s an option when we put André in defense and add a player further forward.

Assistant coach Marcão, who led the alternative team in the first four matches, was also praised by Diniz in the press conference.

— I thank Marcão and Cadu, who did an exceptional job with the boys in the first rounds of the championship.

Unbeaten leader of the Guanabara Cup, Fluminense has 13 points in the standings, three ahead of second-placed Botafogo. The tricolors’ next match will be next Sunday (4) at 4pm (Brasilia time), against Boavista, at the Elcyr Resende stadium, in Bacaxá.
