Discover De Grace on Thursday 8 and 15 February at 20:55 on Arte and until 15 March on arte.tv.
What is it about?
Pierre Leprie was born in Le Havre, with oil and salt in his blood. A man of all struggles, his political and trade union loyalties made him a respected figure among the dockers. But on the evening of his 60th birthday, while his loved ones gather for a birthday party, everything falls apart. His youngest son, Simon, was arrested behind the wheel of a car that his brother, Genie, a dealer, had lent him for the evening. A kilogram of cocaine was found in the chassis.
Power of the Port of Le Havre
Presented for the first time at Séries Mania in March 2023, de Grace managed to capture the attention and applause of the spectators present at the event. And for good reason, from its exquisite production to its well-written atmosphere, story and star-studded cast (Olivier Gourmand, Pierre Lottin, Margot Bancillon, Panayiotis Pascott, Astrid Wetnall, Philippe Rebot, Gringe, Xavier Beauvois…) this production had enough to to become one of the events of 2024.
This series is available from January 31 on Arte.tv and will be broadcast on Thursdays, February 8 and 15 at 20:55 on Arte, directed by Vincent Mael Cardona, who won the César for the best first film of 2021 for Les Magnétiques. Enriching ambivalent characters and a rich plot on several levels, de Grace’s exceptional production captivates us from the first moments and immediately fits into the lineage of great French creations.

“The mythological dimension of the story, which embodies characters with a larger trajectory, invited us to stylize the approach. De Grace is a tragedy, not a realistic thriller, about the drug trade among dock workers.Emphasizes Vincent Mael Cardona. We wanted to go in that direction, by composing the image in a dark tone, by finding faces carved in stone in the actors.“
Drama with lyrical accents In 6 episodes, in which Le Havre portrays the character in his own way, the series finds its name in a special plot. Because if the term “grace” evokes a mystical dimension, the director had another idea in mind when choosing this title. “More than mysticism or religion, it’s the idea of fate that we’ve been trying to explore.“
“De Grace refers to the name Francis I gave to this port when he founded it, “Le Havre de Grace”. It is also a plea from the Leprie family in the face of an unfolding drama over which they have no control.” An exciting explanation for the series, which is just as exciting, without further delay to watch on Arte and arte.tv.
