2024 is going to be a busy year for Netflix. This Thursday, February 1, the premier streaming platform unveiled its impressive upcoming catalog. First for cinema, with films like Back In Action, which brings together Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx, or Lady and the Dragon with Millie Bobby Brown, but also, and obviously, for TV series.
Squid Game Season 2, Bridgerton Chronicles Season 3, Outer Banks Season 4, Emily in Paris, and Umbrella Academy have all been announced. Other anticipated titles were conspicuous by their absence. The reason is simple: the writers’ strike – which lasted more than five months – and the actors’ strike – almost four months – significantly delayed the production of several projects.
Wednesday’s return will be in 2025
In between, we’re thinking about Wednesday’s Season 2. The series, hosted by Jenna Ortega, became one of the most significant successes in the history of the platform in 2022. Renewed in January 2023, a second season was expected to see the light of day next fall. Eventually, the demands of Hollywood hindered development. Filming for Season 2 is expected to begin in late April 2024 in Ireland.
Same problem for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. The sci-fi series, which requires many months of filming, has just started shooting. The first photo of the united actors was published in January. The long-awaited 5th season will be released only in 2025.

others are not
Other very ambitious series were again heavily affected by the strikes. This is the case for Sweet Magnolias, Ginny & Georgia, and Virgin River, which are absent from Netflix’s announcements. These three series are also only due to return in 2025. Due out in 2022, The Recruit with Noah Centineo, The Watcher and The Lincoln Defense are also delayed.
As for One Piece, one of the highlights of 2023, its absence is not surprising. The live-action adaptation of the manga is much newer, and filming for its 2nd season has yet to be announced.
