The character played by Sandra Hüller is a German writer and has a blind 11-year-old son, the only witness to the crime. She will go to trial and the investigations will try to find out whether the man committed suicide or was murdered by his wife.

But it is not. “Anatomy of a Fall” is not based on a true story. The film is an original idea of director Justine Triet and her partner, Arthur Harari, who also co-wrote the screenplay.
Although the film resembles the true crime genre, the story and characters are completely fictional. The director said that the story was created especially for the actress Sandra Hüller, whose performance in the film “Toni Erdmann” fascinated her.
The film itself provokes the question of what is reality and what is fiction and presents the elements of the judicial process with great precision. And it places us as interpreters of a reality in which we do not know how to judge what the reasons and possibilities are.
