Rated 4 out of 5: Iconic in the US but little-known in France, this series begins its final season on Prime Video

Still, the co-creator of Seinfeld, one of the most popular American sitcoms of all time, Larry David has long remained in the shadows. Appearing in only a few episodes of the series, the latter does not enjoy the notoriety comparable to that of Jerry Seinfeld, the program’s other creator.

The author of a large number of episodes, Larry David did not work on the last two seasons of the program (except for the finale), due to the grueling work pace.

Larry David, or The Art of Everything to Nothing

However, this withdrawal allowed him to devote himself to separate projects, including making a film (Sour Grapes) but also designing an entirely new series.

Seinfeld has often been summed up by its creators as “a show about nothing.” Instead, Larry David decided to make Curb Your Enthusiasm (in French called Larry and His Navel) a series that would touch on all topics. In this HBO comedy, the screenwriter portrays himself in a caricatured and ironic version.

Both clumsy and short-tempered, Larry David of the series never misses an opportunity to generate uncomfortable situations. The King of Sorrows and especially fond of milk, the latter causes many bursts of laughter as he finds himself in the heart of incredible moments of loneliness despite himself.

A hilarious pastiche of Hollywood glamour

A veritable pastiche mocking the backstage of Hollywood, the series welcomed a host of guests (mostly in their own roles), including John Legend, Bryan Cranston, Lily Collins, Michael J. Fox and Martin Scorsese. The seventh season of Curb Your Enthusiasm also saw the entire cast of Seinfeld for several episodes.

American Comedy Summit (the series won the Golden Globe for Best Comedy Series in 2003), Curb Your Enthusiasm remains largely unknown to the general French public… although many Internet users use meme excerpts from the series without even knowing it. !

With its final season airing this Monday, February 5 on Warner Pass, available as a paid option on Prime Video, perhaps there will be an opportunity to offer some belated recognition to this essential series?
