Given this scenario, we decided to compile a list of 10 productions, including films and series, that explore natural disasters, such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, hurricanes, tsunamis, avalanches and issues related to global warming.
Films and series about natural disasters
Pandora (2016) – Film
The South Korean film “Pandora” is based on an earthquake that triggers a nuclear crisis. The film is written and directed by Park Jung-woo and stars Kim Nam-gil.
In the plot, a man risks his life to save the people he loves when an earthquake hits a village containing a nuclear power plant.
The Millennium Flood (2022) – Series

This 6-episode Polish miniseries is based on true events. The work is inspired by the Millennium Flood of 1997, an event that affected Poland as well as parts of the Czech Republic and Germany.
The series portrays the effects of the disaster in the Polish city of Wroclaw and stars Agnieszka Żulewska, Tomasz Schuchardt and Ireneusz Czop.
The Everest Earthquake (2022) – Series

Documentary miniseries in 3 episodes with images and interviews with survivors of the earthquake that shook Nepal in 2015.
Directed by Olly Lambert, the documentary presents authentic and profoundly impactful images and narratives of the disaster. The scale of the event was colossal, killing over 9,000 people and leaving around 23,000 injured, all after reaching an intensity of 7.8 on the Richter scale.
Whakaari Volcano (2022) – Film

Documentary film featuring detailed images of the 2019 eruption of the Whakaari volcano.
Director Rory Kennedy recounts the investigation into the disaster that killed 22 people. At the time of the volcanic activity, several people were near the volcano area, including about 50 tourists from different countries.
Pompeii (2014) – Film

Directed by Paul WS Anderson, famous for the film saga that adapts the “Resident Evil” games, the film tells the story of Milo, a slave who finds himself facing the mission of saving the woman he loves and his gladiator best friend from imminent eruption of Vesuvius.
The plot of the film is inspired by true events, more precisely the destruction of the city of Pompeii during the eruption of Vesuvius in the year 79.
72 Dangerous Places to Live (2016) – Series

Series that explores human adaptation in the face of extreme dangers around the world. The program follows the daily lives of residents of places and communities facing challenges such as earthquakes and tsunamis in Japan, the relentless heat of the Ethiopian desert and the catastrophic threat of rising sea levels in Bangladesh.

Stormy Land is a documentary series about natural disasters. Here we follow storm chasers, survivors and rescue professionals as they share their experiences with natural disasters, such as volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes.
The series has 4 episodes and each one deals with a natural disaster.
Against the Ice (2022) – Film

A Danish survival film, inspired by real events that occurred between 1909 and 1912.
The plot follows an expedition to Greenland, where two men risk everything in search of a lost map. Discovering the truth about the island, the journey back to the ship becomes a battle against hunger, exhaustion, and an impending confrontation with a polar bear.
Breaking Barriers: Our Planet (2021) – Film
