La Tribu on TF1: Did you know that the series is adapted from Swedish fiction?

This Monday, February 5, TF1 broadcasts the first two episodes of La Tribu, its new family series hosted by Alix Poisson and Jonathan Zakai. Consisting of 6 episodes, this fiction follows the daily lives of Camille and Martin, lovers in their forties who find themselves at the head of a blended family.

42-year-old Camille, responsible for the green spaces of their small town, is an idealistic fighter who sometimes prefers to embellish the truth in order to believe in her lucky star. His companion, 46-year-old Martin, an organized and forward-thinking French teacher, is always worried about what’s going on.

Will their love survive Frank’s (formerly Camille’s) anger, Alexandra’s (formerly Martin’s) anger, and the demands of the children who manipulate them as they please? Together, Camille and Martin will have to succeed in finding a balance, inevitably unstable, for their new little family. Especially since an unexpected event should come and rearrange the cards…

TV series adapted from Swedish fiction

Tom is actually an adaptation of Our Big Family, a Swedish series that will air between 2017 and 2021 in its country of origin. “There was something about this series that was a little dramatic.” explained the producer of the series, Harold Valentine.

I like this mix of genres that is in the drama. I also really liked the complexity of the conflicted characters. There were many elements that deeply interested me, and in our time, where trying to live together has become more difficult, the blended family is really one way to approach this theme of the collective.

But while the two series have a similar initial content (a couple, their ex and their children who have to learn to live together), Manon Dilys and Élian Vienneron, the creators of La Tribu, made many changes to adapt the story. French society and French humor in particular, as Jonathan Zakai explained at a press conference during the La Rochelle Art Festival.

I watched a little of the original series.“, he confided. “But it’s a Swedish series, so I don’t know who knows Swedish humor, but personally I’m not very sensitive to it (laughs). So I stopped watching pretty quickly.

For the most curious who want to discover our extended family, all four seasons of the series are available in France on Netflix.
